The Public Schools of Brookline

Principal of the K-8 Florida Ruffin Ridley School

District Profile

The Public Schools of Brookline serves 7000+ students and provides an extraordinary education for every child.  Eight K-8 schools feed into one comprehensive high school.  Brookline’s Pre-K-8 system provides distinct advantages for children.  Each child’s unique path to achievement is supported in academically exciting and programmatically rich environments.  A dynamic, diverse community of teaching professionals works collaboratively, innovating and inspiring each other and their students.  Staff gets to know students intellectually, developmentally and culturally.

School Profile

Located in the vibrant Coolidge Corner neighborhood, the Florida Ruffin Ridley (FRR) School is the largest of Brookline’s PK-8 schools, serving a population of 850+ students. The school reflects and respects human diversity, welcoming students from all over the world.

Historically, FRR is remembered as the public school that was attended by President John F. Kennedy. The school’s 3rd graders honor the memory and legacy of John F. Kennedy every year by engaging in a four-week study in collaboration with the JFK National Historic Site, which culminates into students reading essays and poems about what JFK means to them.

The Florida Ruffin Ridley School faculty represents an array of talented professionals. The school maintains a strong emphasis on adult learning. Each year, FRR teachers are awarded numerous grants from the Brookline Education Foundation. Over the years, our staff has had the opportunity to undertake various summer and year-long learning programs, such as “Fostering Adult Learning Groups”, “Building Science Professional Development Capacity", "Improving Writing through Writers’ Express Strategies", and more.

Community service is one of the many attributes defining the Florida Ruffin Ridley School spirit. Parents at the Florida Ruffin Ridley School are active members in the PTO. Together with the Florida Ruffin Ridley School Alliance, a nonprofit corporation comprising alumni and current families, and with our diligent principal, the traditions of excellence and caring, which are the hallmarks of the FRR community, have been maintained and enhanced.
