The STAR Academy Assistant Director will serve as an assistant director for a three week in-person summer program for English learners and students in METCO entering grades Pre-Kindergarten to 8th who will receive instruction in literacy and math to hone their reading, writing, and math skills. Students will also have the opportunity to attend enrichment activities in the areas of STEM, the Arts, and social and emotional learning. The program serves approximately 320 students and employs 38 staff. 

 

Qualifications:

• Currently employed by the Public Schools of Brookline
• Experience organizing summer learning opportunities for students in PK-12
• Experience working with English learners and students in METCO

 

Duties & Responsibilities: January - June:

• Support the application and admission process
• Review STAR Academy students’ performance data to determine areas of need and improvement
• Participate in curriculum development across grades PK-8 and make annual curriculum adjustments
• Support the application and admission process
• Co-coordinate and facilitate STAR Academy staff orientations and team meetings
• Assist with the planning and delivery of parent/caretaker orientation meetings for STAR Academy
• Identify and purchase supplies for students and staff
• Facilitate and respond to staff and parent/caretaker communication

 

July - August

• Assist with the coordination and execution of STAR Academy from 7:30AM - 3:00PM, Monday-Friday
• Coordinate and distribute materials to classrooms
• Manage daily student attendance
• Co-plan and facilitate weekly program meetings with each grade level team
• Provide supervisory support to all STAR Academy staff as needed
• Assist with the breakfast and lunch program each day
• Support staff in the collection and packaging of materials at the end of the program

 

September - December

• Participate in STAR Academy leadership meetings to:
• Review stakeholders’ surveys and participate in program evaluation
• Provide a quality review of enrichment programming
• Review students’ academic data to determine enhanced academic services and enrichment activities
