General Description:
The Michael Driscoll School seeks a play director to oversee the play selection, casting, staging, costumes, and performances of a middle school musical/play.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Creating a budget for the play
- Selecting and ordering an appropriate musical (script, score, music) for middle school students
- Holding auditions to select the cast and crew members
- Collaborating with the costume designer, choreographers, and technical crew
- Ordering the necessary materials needed by the costume designer and technical crew
- Blocking the actor movements on stage
- Leading rehearsals
- Advertising and setting ticket prices to meet the budget demands
Requirements:
- The candidate must be available hold auditions and rehearsals after school, beginning close to 2:30pm.
- The candidate must be available for rehearsals on average of 6 hours per week
- The candidate must be available for rehearsals beginning in early December through the performances in mid-March
- The candidate must be availabe to hold two performances during the school day
- The candidate must be available to hold three evening performances during middle weeks in March
- The candidate must make the auditions, rehearsals, and performances accessible to all students, and advocate for the needs of the students involved.
- Provide a safe environment for all children involved
- Communicate clearly with the parents of the students involved about the auditions, rehearsals, and performance dates and times
- Maintain attendance records
Qualifications:
- Work experience with middle school students (1 year) preferred.
- Experience with the process of putting on a middle school musical performance preferred.
