Description

The purpose of the ELE Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) Coordinator is to develop and implement district-wide family engagement systems and activities that create strong supports for families in Brookline’s ELE program.

 

The ELE FaCE Coordinator works towards the following goals:

  • Enhance parents’ capacity to support their children’s learning and serve as leaders in their children’s school(s).
  • Work with staff, families, and community organizations to create school environments that are consistently welcoming to families of English learners.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about opportunities for involvement and happenings in the community.

 

The ELE FaCE Coordinator’s essential duties and responsibilities are to:

  • Assist families in accessing appropriate resources that will support their child(ren)’s learning including the maintenance of an ongoing ELE communication platform (i.e. blog, newsletter, website). 
  • Coordinate and oversee district-wide programs, including informational and educational events, designed to support the development and learning of students and their families. Programs may include English Conversation Groups, Family Fest, Resource Fair, Community Lounge, and Student Leadership Conferences. 
  • Support school staff in meeting the various needs of students and their families; under direction, provide advice and counsel to students and their families.
  • Serve as a liaison between families and community services.
  • Help families access district services including free/reduced lunch, summer school offerings, adult education classes, tutoring, support staff (social workers, psychologists, nurses, etc.).
  • Identify community resources and establish relationships with local agencies and organizations that work with families from various cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Assist with student registration procedures during the school year and summer to identify needs of English learners upon entering the district.
  • Encourage and support ELE parent representation in school and district committees and activities (i.e. English Learner Parent Advisory Council, Parent Teacher Organizations, Special Education Parent Advisory Council).
  • Advocate for the interests of students and their families, and ensure that district services are responsive to their needs. To this end, collaborate with the Office of English Language Education Director, and school personnel (guidance counselors, social workers, psychologists, EL teachers) to address specific social, emotional, and psychological needs and concerns.

 

Qualifications & Credentials:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each essential duty satisfactorily. The responsibilities listed above are representative of the knowledge and skills required.

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Valid Massachusetts Licensure preferred
  • Knowledge of Brookline’s Office of English Language Education and community resources
  • Fluency in English
  • Familiarity with stages of child development

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a school setting
  • 1-3 years of experience coordinating programs for students and/or families
